Imacon Flextight Scanning in Berlin

Imacon Flextight 646 is a virtual drum scanner that truly gets the most out of your negative.

This service is ordered per frame, so you can choose the special images you want rescanned instead of the whole roll.

When to Choose Imacon Film Scanning

You can count on Imacon film scanning if:

  • You need to scan specific formats: 4×5, panoramic shots or rare sizes of 120 film.
  • You wish your slide scans to be as good as you see them in real life.
  • You have to print your photos big for an exhibition.

Film Formats and Scan Resolution

Words can’t describe how good it is. But numbers can:

  • 135 type: 8300 × 5800 px, 6300 dpi.
  • 120 type: 6850 × 6850 px, 3200 dpi.
  • 4×5: 7700 × 9400 px, 2040 dpi.

We can also scan 110 film.

TIFF, 3F or JPG?

If you order Imacon scanning, you can choose JPG, TIFF or 3F — Imacon’s raw format.

JPG or TIFF gives you flat scans, ready for your post-processing.

TIFF files are output uncompressed with a bit depth of 48 bits for color or 16 bits for black and white. File sizes are roughly 350 MB.

3F gives you a raw negative scan that you convert yourself using Imacon software. It keeps all the image data and gives you full control over the edit.

Imacon vs. Other Scanning Options

Imacon Flextight vs. Noritsu

Imacon offers higher resolution than Noritsu, but its scanning process is slower.

You can see the difference in our Imacon vs. Noritsu samples.

Imacon Flextight 646 vs. Durst Sigma Plus

Imacon pros:

  • Outstanding dynamic range — approximately 4.6 Dmax, helping capture detail in shadows and highlights.
  • Exceptional sharpness, thanks to virtual drum scanning technology.

Imacon cons:

  • Slower workflow.

Negative Cleaning and Scan Finishing

We manually clean your negatives before scanning, but we can’t guarantee a fully dust-free result, since Imacon doesn’t have Digital ICE. Some dust may still show up depending on the negative’s condition.

You get scans with neutral colors and exposure. What you do next is up to you and your tastes.
