Long out of print, this major retrospective of Robert Mapplethorpe’s black and white photographs is now available in a new edition. It features his portraits, floral still lifes, and many of his most famous and controversial images. Despite his untimely death in 1989, the impact of his bold and innovative approach endures, influencing various aspects of culture and the work of other artists. Born in 1946 in Long Island, New York, Mapplethorpe graduated from the Pratt Institute with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. In the early 1980s, he revolutionized photography with new techniques and formats. Mapplethorpe: The Complete Flowers was his first book published by teNeues and is essential for anyone interested in contemporary photography, featuring an essay by philosopher and art critic Arthur C. Danto.
