Glass surfaces such as telescope lenses pointing to the clear sky are prone to having dew forming on the lens during the night – especially if its humid. They also tend to capture stray light, which reduces the contrast of the target.
As many Astronomers and Astrophotographers have experienced, on clear nights dew is often a real problem and if it forms on your lens it can render your nights observing session over. After only a very short time, the optics can start fogging, making viewing or photography impossible. These Celestron Dew Protection Heater Rings are the ideal solution for preventing this problem.
The dew-protection heater rings are available in various sizes depending on your telescope OTA size and they replace the retaining ring on your existing Celestron Telescope. Installation is quick and easy (Follow instructions in the manual here).
How does it work?
The dew-protection heater ring replaces the plastic retaining ring on your telescope’s Schmidt plate and provides efficient heating of the front lens. The ring is made of lightweight, durable aluminum and its rigid frame supports both the cabling and the telescope’s Schmidt plate. Unlike other heating bands or strips, which inefficiently heat the entire OTA cell to warm the glass, the Celestron dew-protection heater ring transfers heat directly to the Schmidt plate, providing the most efficient heat transfer to prevent dew formation.
Simply connect the ring to an external 12V DC Dew Heater power source for a consistent, continuous heat supply that prevents dew formation, even in high humidity. The dew-proof heating ring features two storage clips to safely store the power and thermistor connectors when not in use, and a dust cover for the telescope.
The dew-proof heater ring also comes with a cable management clip that can be attached to the front of the OTA. This allows you to secure the power and thermistor jack-plugs for strain relief and to neatly route the connecting cables.
The ring also includes an extension cable that allows it to be connected directly to one of the controller’s heater outputs or to the heater output of another controller. (Note: The heated ring also has an integrated temperature probe (thermistor) however this is only compatible with Celestron’s Smart Power and Dew Control box) We also recommend using a dew cap. While not required, it reduces the energy required by the dew heater ring to keep the optics clear.
Whats included:
- Dew protection heating ring
- Cable management clip
- Extension cable for the power socket
- Paper cover to protect the Schmidt plate during assembly
